Lubing your switches — video tutorial

Why you SHOULD lube your switches and how to do it

Video tutorial by Alexotos

Brief summary of key points:

Why lube your switches?

  1. Feel — makes them smoother.

  2. Sound profile — makes them sound better. This varies by switch.

What lube should you use?

This video goes over two popular types of lube:

  • Krytox 205g0: thicker, recommended for linear switches

  • Tribosys 3204: thinner, recommended for tactile switches and general use

There are lots of other types out there that you can experiment with.

Materials you need

  • Switches

  • Lube

  • Switch Opener

  • Brush

  • Cleaning cloth

Other Notes

  • Linear switches: lube all the sides of the stem.

  • Tactile switches: lube the back and sides of the stem, but generally not the two legs. You can carefully lube the face above the legs.

  • Less is more! It’s easier to add more lube than take away.

  • Lubing can depend on people’s tastes, so opinions may vary on how exactly to do it. Feel free to experiment to see what you like.
